The Crescent Standard

The Crescent Standard is the editorial framework that guides Crescent & Quill’s publishing decisions and editorial practice. It informs how work is selected, developed, and ultimately published under the Crescent imprint.

This standard exists to ensure consistency, clarity, and integrity across our list. It reflects our belief that publishing is a discipline grounded in judgment, attention, and long-term consideration.

The Crescent Standard applies equally to our publishing program and to our editorial work.

  • Every project considered by Crescent & Quill is evaluated through a shared set of editorial principles.

    We look for:

    • A distinct and disciplined voice

    • Structural coherence and clarity of purpose

    • Thoughtful engagement with the intended reader

    • Work that demonstrates care in its conception and execution

Selection is deliberate. We are less interested in trends or volume than in work that reflects intention and lasting relevance.

  • Once selected, projects move through a defined editorial pathway shaped by close collaboration and professional rigor.

    This process may include:

    • Developmental editing focused on structure and argument

    • Line editing to refine voice, clarity, and precision

    • Copyediting and production review to ensure consistency and quality

Editorial decisions are made with attention to the integrity of the work and its long-term life as a published book.

  • The Crescent Standard is not a checklist or a formula. It does not guarantee publication, nor does it promise a particular outcome.

It does not prioritize speed, scale, or marketability at the expense of editorial judgment. It is not designed to accommodate every project or every approach to writing.

Clarity about what we do and do not publish serves our authors, our readers, and our work.
